Born on July 28, 1990 in Chicago, Illinois he was named DeAndre Ramone Way. He is now known as Soulja Boy, his stage name as an American rapper.
Being so new to the scene there is not much known about him. His album, Soulja Boy Tellem was released on October 2, 2007. The single off it titled, “Crank That†reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is still on the charts today.
He was raised by his mother and grandmother in Chicago, Illinois. He sang his first rap song to his mother and grandmother when he was only five years old. His mother Lisa and he moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1996 and this is where he learned to do his beats and dance. Music called Snap was just coming into play when he got to Georgia so he mixed it up with his Chicago style and then his hits started coming one right after another. They lived in Atlanta from the time he was six to the time he was fourteen then they moved to Batesville, Mississippi with his dad, Tracy. Since Batesville was only forty miles from Memphis, he picked up the Memphis style of rap. Then his father made a studio in their house for him and the rest has now become history.
He started up his own website souljaboytellum.com, which received hundreds of hits right away. This helped people hear his rap and start wanting more. People were feeling what they said was cool and a different way of rap. He said he was from ‘Shylantaville’ or Shylantasippi’ when he was asked where he was from. All his fans thought that was so cool since he was from Chicago, Atlanta, and Batesville, Mississippi. He started doing shows once he lined up with Palm Tree productions. He was doing Sweet 16 parties, Skating Rings, and Private parties.
Since then he has also started a My Space account so the fans could get closer to him. He has broken My Space history already by having over 700,000 profile views and over 2.5 million total plays in just less than 4 months. He now averages 15,000-30,000 plays a day and 1500-3000 downloads per day on his My Space site. With those kinds of numbers, it is hard for any other artist to touch him. He has been rated #1 on My Space out of the 30 million artists already showcased. This is unbelievable! Many huge record companies have been trying to get him to sign like Sony and BMG. His favorite labels are Bad Boy, G-Unit, So-So-Def, Koch records and Def jam.
