Phillip David Charles Collins was born on January 30, 1951 in Chiswick, England. By the age of five he was beating on his first little tin drum, however by the age of 12 he had a better drum kit. From as far back as anyone could remember Phil would drum along with the radio, television, or just in front of the mirror.
At age 14, Phil began professional training at the Barbara Speake Stage School. His career started as a child actor and model with a major accomplishment of being The Artful Dodger in a production of Oliver in London. Phil may have started his career in acting, but his heart was in music. When he was attending Chiswick Community School, he formed a band by the name of The Real Thing, but later joined The Freehold in which he wrote his first song, “Lying, Crying, Dyingâ€.
the first record deal for Phil Collins was as a drummer for Flaming Youth in 1969 with the release of one album, Ark 2. The album did not do as well as hoped. In 1970, Phil Collins auditioned for the drummer’s position for the Group Genesis and won. This was the beginning of a musical career with several albums being released and popularity running rampant.
Collins first solo album was released in 1981, “Face Value†and then in 1982 his second album, “Hello, I Must Be Going†was released.
