lilly allen

Sometimes being the daughter of a film producer and a comedian is not enough to achieve recognition in the music industry, but Lilly Allen has made a name for herself regardless of her parents being Allison Owen and Keith Allen.

British songwriter and singer Lily Rose Beatrice Owen-Allen was born on May 2, 1985 in the urban center of Hammersmith situated inside the London Borough of Hammersmith, but later moved with her family to the borough of Islington north of the city.

Raised amidst a family that includes 1 brother, two sisters, and a number of half-siblings, she was also heavily influenced by her late grandfather, Joe Strummer, The Clash’s former guitarist.

Due to her parents' work, Lilly Allen, attended 13 different schools with no time to settle down or make friends so reading and music became her best friends before she turned 15. At this age, she was submerging herself into the works of T. Rex, The Streets, Saint-Etienne, Neneh Cherry, The Specials, Happy Mondays, and The Slits.

Although, Lilly Allen was included in many of her parents' projects, her first approach to music occurred when she ran away from school to attend the Glastonbury Festival at age 14. Then she learned that music was the pathway to follow and began to develop her own singing style.

Lilly's cheeky attitude and talents took her to the Internet for the development of her MySpace page in which she released her first demos in late 2005, including her own songs but also two limited-editions mixtapes featuring covers of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ludacris, and Dizzee Rascal.

MySpace catapulted Lilly Allen to BBC Radio one after her fans and friends brought the attention of critics that eventually led her to accept a recording contract with Regal/Parlophone by the end of that same year.

Lilly's debut album, "Alright Still" topped number one on the British singles charts in July 2006 with the song "Smile", and the album was voted as the third best Album of 2006 among many other nominations from BRIT Awards, MTV Awards, NME Awards, Q Awards, and MixMag.

Lilly Alen's popularity is just increasing and with a debut album that went 2x Platinum UK certification her future in the music scene is more than promissory.
