Julio José Iglesias de la Cueva was born on September 23, 1943 in Madrid, Spain, son to Galician Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga and Maria del Rosario de la Cueva y Perignat. Julio Iglesias is actually one of the most renowned Latin artists of all times and the best-selling Spanish singer with over 250 million albums around the world.

Often catalogued as a contemporary balladist, Julio Iglesias is a romantic crooner with a smooth mellow style that began his career in 1968 after winning the Benidorm International Song Festival in his country, winning the first prize with his original song "La Vida Sigue Igual" that was also his first Latin American hit.

That year he signed with Discos Columbia, the Latin branch of Columbia Records and then represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970 with the song "Gwendolyne".

Julio Iglesias traveled to Mexico and after a number of presentations in "Siempre en Domingo", a TV show that was considered the Mecca to succeed in all the Spanish speaking countries and Latin communities in America.

In fact, Julio began to achieve fame all over Latin America and eventually crossed the linguistic barriers achieving an impressive success in the United States after signing a contract with CBS International in 1978.

Julio Iglesias first international album, "De Niña a Mujer" was released in 1981 and it was recorded in Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, Italian, and German. From this album, the Spanish single cover of Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine" hit number one in the UK and became Julio's first hit in the United States.

Between 1969 and 2007, Julio Iglesias has released 56 albums, including both studio recordings and collections. It is estimated that Julio has performed in no less than 5,000 concerts and has recorded albums in 14 different languages throughout his career.

Julio Iglesias moved to Miami Beach, Florida, in 1985 and won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album in the 1988. Julio has also performed in duo recordings with Willie Nelson and Diana Ross hitting the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and remains an active pop singer.
