Fabolous is the name of an Afro-American rapper who was born John Jackson on November 18, 1977 in Brooklyn, New York. Raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant the largest Black neighborhood in the United States, John grew up with a lucky star that helped him to be portrayed as one of the new breed of New York City rappers with a poster-boy look and immense feeling.
Although, Fabolous began to receive attention after the release of the single "If They Want It" released on Def Jam Recordings in 1998 under his moniker Fabolous Sport, the song did not make that much noise to get Fabolous out of the box.
"If They Want It" was part of the "DJ Clue? The Professional" album and that helped him to record another single "Gotta Be a Thug", this time released on Elektra Records in 2000, but included on "DJ Clue Presents Backstage Mixtape" soundtrack.
It was not until 2001 when Fabolous did breakthrough into the mainstream with the single "Can't Deny It" that turned him into the most promising East Coast rap star of the new millennium, after the song hit the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2004, Fabolous received a Grammy nomination for his participation on Christina Milian's remix "Dip It Low", at the time that his third album, "Real Talk" peaked at number 6 on Billboard 200 after selling 179,000 copies.
After slowing down his activity during 2005 when he began a long-term love relationship, Fabolous was shot in the leg in Manhattan the morning of October 17, 2006, being attended to in a local hospital with no major consequences.
Throughout his rap career Fabolous has released four full-length studio albums including his debut album "Ghetto Fabolous" in 2001, Street Dreams (2003), Real Talk (2004), and his most recent production, “From Nothin' to Somethin'†released on June 12, 2007.
Featuring a gangsta hip-hop, the album topped number one Billboard’s Top Rhythm & Blues/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap charts respectively. From Nothin' to Somethin' sold 266,000 copies in its first week with 159,000 copies sold in the United States alone and one month later the album received the RIAA Gold Certification.
