She was born Jennifer Lynn Lopez on July 24, 1969 in Castle Hill in the Bronx, New York City, New York to Puerto Rican parents. Jennifer attended Catholic school. At the age of 19, she financed her singing and dance lessons. She worked in a legal office to dancing at dance clubs at night.
She had spent many months auditioning for dancing roles and she did a few for some rap artists. She was chosen to be a backup singer for new Kids on the Block at the American Music Awards in 1991. In 1993, she was a backup dancer for Janet Jackson.
Jennifer has had many acting roles under her belt as well including "Money Train", "Jack", "Blood and Wine", "Selena", "The Wedding Planner", "Maid in Manhattan" and "Monster-In-Law". She became the first Latino actress to be paid $1 million or more for a film role.
American Idol asked her to be a mentor on April 10, 2007. She was the mentor for the upcoming American Idol artists prior to the weekly show, which is aired two nights, one for the competition and another to learn which was voted off. On the second night Jennifer appeared and sang her song, "Que Hiciste", all three judges were on their feet for a standing ovation.
Her singing and acting is not all this talented lady does. She also owns her own clothing line called, JLO by Jennifer Lopez. This is a line of clothing for young women. In 2005, she also had another line called, "Sweetface". Now she has a jewelry line in the works that includes hats, gloves, and scarves. She is retiring the line of clothing JLO and will be introducing a newer line called, Just Sweet in the fall of 2007.
She is not done yet! On April 12, 2002, she opened a Cuban restaurant in Pasadena, California called Madre's. Then she went on to make a perfume line called Glow by JLO, which had sales beyond anyone's expectations. She has released seven different fragrances in the line.
After two failed marriages, Jennifer is now happily married to Marc Anthony. During his interviews, he keeps their private life private and will not discuss everything the public would like to know. This has made Lopez do the same with the media.
