last comic standing

Last Comic Standing is a reality talent show for comedians. It premiered on June 1, 2003 and has been going for 5 seasons with a total of 49 episodes.

The object of the talent show is to select a comedian from all contestants that will receive a contract with NBC and a special which will appear on the cable television network Comedy Central and then later on the cable network Bravo.

The creator of Last Comic Standing is Peter Engel. At the start, talent scouts from NBC, Ross Mark and Bob Read had open casting calls throughout the US. During this competition, Ross and Rob chose contestants to participate in callback auditions in which the contestants would perform in front of a live audience. From this portion of the competition, Mark and Rob selected a certain number of comics to invite to participate in the semi-final round.

When comics advanced to this stage they were seperated into two groups. Each week the contestants had a new comic challenge to perform. At the end of each week, every comic had the chance to choose another comic they believed they could beat in a one-to-one challenge. The comic who received the most nominations participated in that evening's one-to-one competition and selected their opponent from any of the comics who had challenged them. The audience then voted and the winner stayed on the show.

When it was down to five comics, television viewers could then vote for their favorite comic. The comic that received the lowest number of votes was elimated.
